$1,000 Environmental Science Scholarship

Application Process

In 2011 Founder Helen Donelan Price witnessed how limited access to clean water severely impacted the health of children in rural Alaska. She came away with a desire to educate families on best practices for using and conserving our most valuable natural asset. Thus The Watercookies Project was born. 

Our annual scholarship is awarded to college freshmen or returning sophomores working toward degrees in environmental science. The $1000 Scholarship is nonrenewable. 


Student will:

  • be enrolled in a 2-year or 4-year accredited college and plan to pursue a degree in environmental science.
  • have demonstrated participation in extracurricular/volunteer activities related to either preserving the environment or requiring skills needed for success in the field.  
  • secure one or more letters of recommendation that endorses the student's: commitment to becoming a good water steward, positive environmental attitude, strong character and perseverance. Each letter must include the student's name and author's signature and contact information.
  • have an official confirmation of the student's most recent GPA forwarded to The Watercookies Project.
  • write a 300-500 word essay on the topic below.

Topic: Describe your educational career and life goals as related to environmentalism. Explain how your intended major will help you achieve these goals.

Watercookies, Inc. will:

  • keep student informed as we receive required application documents.
  • evaluate all applications without respect to age, gender, nationality or race.
  • make our best effort to complete the evaluation process no later than June 30, 2020.
  • Checks will be made out to the college where the student is matriculated.

Scholarship Application Deadline

 It is the student's responsibility to assure that all required documents including letter of recommendation, essay, and confirmation of GPA have been received by The Watercookies Project no later than April 1 of the academic year. 

Interested students should register their intent to apply by completing the form below and using the "send" button. All other documents specified above must be mailed as hard copy to "Scholarships, The Watercookies Project, 33 Chestnut Ridge Rd, Mills River, NC 28759" or emailed to watercookiesinc@gmail.com. You will be notified by email as each part of your application is received by The Watercookies Project.
